Avery Pearson set a new personal record in the 800 meter run as the Colorado Buffaloes track and field team concluded the 2026 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational Saturday at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
Pearson’s performance highlights her continued improvement this season, marking another milestone for the Colorado Buffaloes. The event also saw senior Amanda Opp compete in the Weight Throw, rounding out a strong weekend for both men’s and women’s teams.
“Avery had another great day,” said Sean Carlson, CU’s Director of Cross Country and Track & Field. “She keeps winning races and that will continue to translate into faster and faster times.”
Pearson ran in the second heat of the elite women’s 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:03.21. This result surpassed her previous best of 2:04.15 and solidified her position as second fastest in program history for the women’s indoor 800 meters. The graduate student from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada won her heat and maintained an undefeated streak in all her heats this season, ultimately placing eighth overall.
Her latest achievement comes after setting her previous personal record at another Boston meet earlier this year. Meanwhile, Amanda Opp finished fifteenth in the Women’s Weight Throw with a mark of 15.21 meters (49-11.0).
The Buffaloes will return home to compete at the Ford Practice Facility next Friday, February 20 for the Colorado Last Chance meet, which will begin with a special recognition of track and field seniors at 11 a.m., followed by running events at noon. This will be their final competition before heading to Big 12 Indoor Championships in Lubbock, Texas on February 27-28.
