Barrington Hargress will return to the University of Colorado men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season, Head Coach Tad Boyle announced on Mar. 28.
Hargress’s decision is significant for the Buffaloes as he played a key role in his first season, averaging 14.2 points and 4.5 assists per game while leading the team with a 48.5% three-point shooting percentage. He also posted the highest field goal percentage by a guard in the Big 12 at .531, ranking him eleventh nationally, and led Colorado in minutes played with 1,031.
“Barrington is a leader who is crucial to what we do as a team because he makes everyone around him better,” said Boyle. “He is a top tier point-guard in the Big 12, the best conference in college basketball, and is the perfect player to build a squad around. He’s also a tremendous person and I couldn’t be happier to have the opportunity to coach him another year.”
Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo said: “Since arriving in Boulder, Barrington has been an incredibly valuable member of the Buffs family and I’m so happy he’s decided to come back for his senior season. Bringing a player of his caliber back demonstrates our commitment to increasing our investment in men’s basketball at Colorado and our desire to compete at the highest levels.”
The junior guard also led the Big 12 and ranked tenth nationally with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.7, putting him on pace to surpass Billy Houston’s school record set during the 1982-83 season. Originally from Inglewood, California, Hargress transferred from UC-Riverside where he averaged 16.4 points per game over two seasons and was named All-Big West Conference First Team after leading that conference—and ranking ninth nationally—in scoring at 20.2 points per game during his sophomore year.
Hargress and his teammates are preparing for their upcoming appearance at the College Basketball Crown Tournament in Las Vegas, where they will face Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 1.
