The Broomfield Police Department announced on Apr. 8 that it will hold a Prescription Drug Take Back Day for the community. The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will take place in the lobby of the Broomfield Police Department at 7 DesCombes Drive in Broomfield, Colorado.

This initiative allows residents to safely dispose of expired or unused medications free of charge. Proper disposal helps prevent accidental poisoning, misuse, and environmental contamination.

Participants can bring prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, liquid medications (in original containers with tightly sealed lids), medicated patches (except Fentanyl and Duragesic patches), medication samples, medicated ointments, vitamins, and pet medications. Residents are encouraged to remove any identifying information from prescription labels if submitting items in their original containers.

Certain items will not be accepted during the event. These include marijuana products, illicit drugs such as heroin or LSD (classified as DEA Schedule I drugs), chemotherapy drugs, medical tools and supplies, bloody or infectious waste, personal care products, thermometers, empty containers, intravenous solutions, injectables and syringes due to potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.

For those unable to attend on April 25th, the department reminds residents that unused prescription and over-the-counter medication can be dropped off year-round at a drop box located in the police department lobby. The lobby is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no appointment necessary.

Community members seeking more information can contact the department by email at bpd@broomfield.org or by phone at 303-469-3301.
