The University of Colorado track and field team began the Potts Invitational on Jan. 16, hosting the first day of competition at the Ford Practice Facility in Boulder.
The event saw three Buffaloes compete on opening day: Amanda Opp and Lucas Williams in the weight throw, and Alaina Fantaski in the shot put. Williams led all collegiate athletes in the weight throw with a mark of 19.45 meters (63 feet, 9.75 inches), moving him into third place on Colorado’s all-time list for that event. Opp achieved a season-best throw of 16.69 meters, while Fantaski made her collegiate debut in the shot put with a distance of 7.42 meters.
Four facility records were broken during Friday’s events. In men’s high jump, Ndayiragije Shukurani from Colorado State set a new record at 2.18 meters, surpassing Jeremy Cody’s previous mark from January 2020. Taylor Waters, also from Colorado State, broke the men’s pole vault record with a height of 5.25 meters. Daniel Reynolds from Wyoming set a new men’s weight throw record at 24.79 meters, improving upon his own previous best, while Cam Burkett from Wyoming established a new men’s shot put record at 19.05 meters.
Competition continues Saturday with several Buffaloes scheduled to participate across multiple events including hurdles, sprints, middle-distance races, and both men’s and women’s mile runs. The Mile Invitational is set as the marquee event beginning at 2 p.m.
Looking ahead, Colorado will host its second indoor meet of the season—the Colorado Invitational—on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 at the same venue.
