The Colorado Buffaloes women’s tennis team lost to No. 20 University of Central Florida, 4-1, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on March 13.
The match was significant for Colorado, which entered ranked No. 51 and now holds a 10-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in the Big 12 Conference. UCF improved its record to 11-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
“Very proud of the way our Buffs competed tonight,” head coach Anthony Pham said. “Playing under the lights in windy conditions made things tricky, but I thought we gave ourselves plenty of opportunities.”
In doubles competition, Colorado dropped matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, giving UCF an early lead as singles play began. Ema Bubalo secured Colorado’s only point with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, marking her first Big 12 match and win this season and her third career conference victory. Bubalo’s singles win also marked her 25th career singles victory.
Lera Alexin won her first set at No. 5 singles before the match was left unfinished due to UCF clinching the overall victory. Other matches saw Aya El Sayed, Pia Rebec, and Rixt van der Werff fall in straight sets to their opponents from UCF.
“Credit to UCF overall, as I thought they played very well. We now turn our focus to getting ready for a tough Houston team on Sunday,” Pham said.
Looking ahead, Colorado will travel to Texas to face No. 36 Houston on Sunday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
