The Colorado Buffaloes women’s tennis team is preparing for two upcoming matches after starting the season with consecutive home wins. The Buffs defeated Montana State 7-0 on January 23 and followed up with a 4-0 victory against the Air Force Academy on January 25.
“It’s always nice to play at home,” said head coach Anthony Pham. “I think we’ve had a good month so far with practice, training, and getting the two matches in last week. We always have good crowds at home so it’s nice to play here, but whether it’s home or on the road, the focus for us is to keep getting better. We know the month of February is going to be a challenging one, from a travel standpoint. But I think our team is ready.”
Colorado will host Miami (Ohio) on Friday in its final home match until early March before traveling Sunday to face local rivals Denver Pioneers. This will be Colorado’s first meeting with Miami (Ohio), which enters Friday’s contest winless after four matches this season. The Denver Pioneers began their spring campaign by defeating Seattle 6-1 last Friday.
Historically, Colorado holds a 32-13 record over Denver and previously enjoyed a 15-match winning streak against them between 1985 and 2003. Since then, results between the teams have alternated, but Colorado has won both encounters since 2022.
“DU is always a very good program,” Pham said. “It’s always a close match. It’ll be a good test for us, but we must clean up to start on Friday against Miami, and then we can head into Sunday. For both, it’s just good opportunities for us to keep getting better.”
The Denver Pioneers have led the Summit League conference every year since joining in 2013 and have appeared in each of the past eleven NCAA Championship tournaments, reaching the second round twice.
Friday’s match will begin at 6 p.m. Mountain Time at the Meadows Club; Sunday’s away contest starts at 4 p.m. at Denver Tennis Park. Fans can follow live updates via Instagram and X at @cubuffstennis.
