The Colorado Buffaloes women’s tennis team lost to No. 34 Baylor, 4-1, in a match impacted by weather delays at the Meadows Club on April 9. The contest marked the start of the final week of regular season play for Colorado.

This loss leaves Colorado with a season record of 10 wins and 12 losses overall, and a conference record of 2-10. Baylor improved its standing to an overall record of 13-7 and an 8-4 mark in Big 12 competition.

“We gave ourselves multiple chances today and poured our hearts out across the board,” said head coach Anthony Pham. “Not having Aya [El Sayed] in the singles lineup made it a challenge, but everyone stepped up.”

The match began with a weather delay shortly after doubles play started. When play resumed under windy conditions, Baylor won at both top doubles positions to secure an early advantage heading into singles matches. Despite this setback, freshman Heidi Crncan earned Colorado’s only point with a straight set victory over Luna Ivkovic at No. 6 singles, winning decisively by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

“Credit to Heidi,” Pham said. “She played a great match, and it just worked out that we came up short on a couple of courts.” Other matches saw competitive efforts from Buffs players such as Lani Brotman and Anya Nelson before being left unfinished due to Baylor clinching the team win.

Colorado will conclude its regular season against TCU this Saturday during AT&T Black and Gold Day at the Meadows Club. The event will also feature celebrations for seniors Anya Nelson and Rixt van der Werff.
