The Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team lost to Oklahoma State 63-56 in a Big 12 matchup at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Sunday. The game was closely contested, featuring 11 lead changes and 10 ties before the Cowgirls pulled ahead in the final minutes.
Colorado trailed by two points after the first quarter and by four at halftime. The Buffaloes tied the game in the third quarter with a jumper from freshman forward Logyn Greer and briefly took the lead early in the fourth. However, Oklahoma State responded with a late run to secure the win.
Head coach JR Payne commented on her team’s performance: “I thought we guarded really well, held them way below their averages offensively,” Payne said. “[We] turned them over [16] times. I thought the defense was great. I just thought our offense was a lot better than it had been, which is also great. But I just thought there were some critical plays, several offensive rebounds that led to threes and lack of communication when we were switching that resulted in threes. When we executed the game plan, I thought we guarded – clearly 30 points below their average is pretty good – really well, but when we didn’t, they made us pay.”
Statistically, Colorado outperformed Oklahoma State in several categories including points in the paint (32-20), defensive rebounds (21-20), second chance points (12-11), assists (13-12), and fast-break points (9-0). The Buffaloes shot 44% from the field and made all of their free throws.
Senior forward Anaëlle Dutat recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 10 points. Senior forward Jade Masogayo contributed 12 points while Greer added another 12 along with four rebounds and two blocks.
With this result, Colorado’s record moves to 11-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Historically, this brings their all-time record against Oklahoma State to an even split at 28 wins each and puts them at 111 wins and 152 losses all-time in Big 12 competition.
