The University of Colorado men’s golf team moved up to a tie for seventh place on Mar. 28 after the second round of Stanford’s “The Goodwin” tournament in Palo Alto, California. The Buffaloes finished the day with an even-par team score of 560, sharing their position with Northwestern and California.
This result places Colorado among strong competition, as 14 teams from the nation’s top 50 are participating in the event. The team’s performance keeps them within reach of a higher finish going into Saturday’s final round.
Head coach Roy Edwards said, “Overall, the guys did a good job of competing and staying focused on their games. Those are important to continue to do going forward. And it was why we were in a good position for a good finish but just couldn’t quite finish it off. We are still in a good position to shoot a low round tomorrow and see if we can’t make some noise. If we all come together and play well at the same time we can give the leaders something to look at coming down the stretch.”
Graduate transfer Jackson Rivera led Colorado with a two-under-par 68, tying him for 13th individually at three-under overall after two rounds on Stanford Golf Course. Junior Brandon Knight is tied for 28th following his second consecutive even-par round, while junior Ty Holbrook sits tied for 39th after posting an eagle for his sixth this season and playing par-5 holes seven under par through two rounds.
Senior Hunter Swanson is tied for 54th despite an early double bogey in his second round but managed three birdies during play. Sophomore Parker Paxton is tied for 107th heading into Saturday’s final round.
Long Beach State’s Alejandro De Castro holds the individual lead at nine-under par, one stroke ahead of two competitors from Brigham Young University and New Mexico.
The tournament concludes Saturday with Colorado grouped alongside New Mexico, Northwestern, and Washington State as they aim to improve their standing.
