The Colorado Senate has unanimously approved HJR26-1018, designating State Highway 86 in Elbert County as the Plains-to-Pines Scenic Corridor. This decision marks the end of a long effort to gain official recognition for this stretch of highway, which is known for its scenic views across Elbert County.

The Senate vote comes after the House also passed the resolution unanimously on February 26. Local officials and state legislators have played a key role in moving the resolution forward. “Elbert County extends unending thanks to SD35 Senator Rod Pelton, HD56 Representative Chris Richardson, and HD53 Representative Andrew Boeseneckerfor their leadership; and the unwavering support; as well as leadership from the Town of Kiowa and Town of Elizabeth.”

With this designation, supporters hope to highlight the natural beauty along Highway 86 and encourage more visitors to experience what Elbert County has to offer.
