Colorado has accepted an invitation to participate in the College Basketball Crown postseason tournament, which will take place from April 1 to April 5 in Las Vegas.
The Buffaloes are set to open against Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. Mountain Time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Oklahoma finished its season with a record of 19-15 and tied for 11th place in the Southeastern Conference. The Sooners were considered the First Team Out during Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament. This matchup marks the 138th meeting between these former conference rivals, but it is their first encounter since 2011. Oklahoma leads the all-time series.
The winner of Colorado versus Oklahoma will face either Baylor or Minnesota on Saturday, April 4, at T-Mobile Arena. Baylor ended its season with a record of 16-16 and finished 13th in the Big 12 Conference, while Minnesota posted a record of 15-17 and placed 11th in the Big Ten Conference.
The championship game for the College Basketball Crown is scheduled for Sunday, April 5, also at T-Mobile Arena. Other teams competing on the opposite side of the bracket include Stanford, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Creighton. Now in its second year, the tournament features eight teams competing for a name-image-likeness prize pool totaling $500,000.
Colorado holds an overall record of 17-15 this season and tied for 11th place in the Big 12 Conference with a league mark of 7-11—an improvement over last year’s finish. Under head coach Tad Boyle, Colorado has advanced to postseason play beyond its conference tournament level in fourteen out of fifteen opportunities since he took over as head coach (with no postseason held in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions). During Boyle’s tenure, Colorado has participated in six NCAA Tournaments and five National Invitation Tournaments (NIT), among other events.
