Colorado track and field athletes delivered strong performances on April 18 at three meets, with standout results at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Los Angeles.
The event was marked by Avery Pearson’s achievement in the women’s 800 meters, where she ran a time of 2:00.91 to finish fourth overall. This performance ranks as the second-fastest in Colorado history and places her fifth nationally for the season.
Dean Casey began the weekend with a personal-best time of 28:17.16 in the men’s 10,000 meters invitational section, securing his position as sixth all-time at Colorado. Riley Burkey also set a new personal best by running 2:09.42 in the women’s 800 meters, breaking the two-minute-and-ten-second barrier for the first time.
In distance events on Friday, James Overberg posted a personal-best of 13:32.53 in the men’s 5000 meters to move to tenth all-time at Colorado and placed fifth in his heat. Jessie Secor achieved a personal record of 15:30.66 in a competitive women’s 5000-meter race, improving her ninth-place mark on Colorado’s all-time list and finishing fifteenth overall. Freshman Holly Barker broke sixteen minutes for the first time with her run of 15:55.42 to take third place in her heat, while Keegan Smith finished eighth after running under fourteen minutes for the first time with a result of 13:58.75.
Lucas Williams recorded significant progress in field events by throwing a personal best of 61.65 meters (202-3) in men’s hammer throw, which moves him up to fifth all-time at Colorado.
Competition is set to continue Sunday at noon Mountain Time as athletes look to build on these performances.
