The University of Colorado track and field team will begin its 2025-26 indoor season with athletes competing in two separate events this weekend. A group of sprinters, jumpers, and throwers will participate in the Mines Alumni Classic in Golden, while five distance runners will compete at the BU Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener in Boston.

At the Mines Alumni Classic, six Colorado athletes are scheduled to compete over two days. The men’s squad includes Antonio Votour, who has a personal best of 8.05 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles and previously won the Big South indoor title in that event. This will be his first indoor race for Colorado. Teagan Malcom, from Longmont, is set to make his collegiate debut in the 60 hurdles. Lucas Williams will compete in the weight throw with a personal record of 18.63 meters set at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis earlier this year; this marks his third appearance at the Mines Alumni Classic. Johnny Homsy returns for his third time as well, running the 60 meters after setting a personal record of 6.80 seconds at last year’s Colorado Invite.

On the women’s side, Riley Ward is entered in the high jump after clearing a personal best of 1.76 meters at this year’s CU Invitational; it is her second time at Mines Alumni Classic. Amanda Opp will take part in her third Mines Alumni Classic competing in the weight throw with a personal record of 18.35 meters achieved at last year’s Air Force Holiday Opener.

Five Buffaloes distance runners are heading to Boston for their season openers on an indoor track known for fast times. Jessie Secor is entered in the women’s 3,000 meters after running an 8:50.63 earlier this year at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Abbey Nechanicky will contest the women’s 5,000 meters and holds a personal best of 16:00.01.

In men’s competition, Isaiah Givens enters with a mark of 7:38 for 3,000 meters; he finished fifth in the mile at last season’s NCAA indoor championships. Dominic Serem has run 7:37 for that distance and recently placed fifty-eighth at NCAA cross country nationals. James Overberg will run the men’s 5,000 meters with a best time of 13:33 following his seventy-fourth-place finish at NCAA cross country championships.

The university also released its full schedule for both indoor and outdoor seasons for this academic year (https://cubuffs.com/news/2024/12/4/track-and-field-launches-indoor-season-with-split-squads-in-golden-and-boston). The home portion features four meets inside Boulder’s Ford Practice Facility—Potts Invitational (January 16-17), Colorado Invite (January 23-24), Colorado Classic (February 6-7), and Colorado Last Chance Qualifier (February 20)—alongside one outdoor home meet later on.

Next up for Colorado track and field is hosting duties as they return to action locally with the Potts Invitational on January 16-17.
