The Colorado track and field team will host the Colorado Last Chance meet at the CU Indoor Practice Facility on Feb. 20, where it will recognize 18 seniors during its annual Senior Day celebration. The senior recognition is scheduled for 11 a.m., with competition beginning at noon, headlined by the Men’s Invite Distance Medley Relay.
The event is significant as it marks the final home appearance for several athletes and provides an opportunity for teams to secure qualifying marks for the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. The Buffs’ A DMR squad includes Justine Kipkoech (1200 meters), Danny Tragarz (400 meters), Drew Costelow (800 meters), and Isaiah Givens (1600 meters). They will compete against top relay teams from Brigham Young University, Northern Arizona University, and New Mexico.
“We are very excited to host some of the nation’s best teams in the distance medley relay this weekend. It’s going to be a great environment to run fast here in Colorado,” said Sean Carlson, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field.
In addition to the men’s DMR, other events include sprints, middle-distance races, relays, and field events for both men and women. Notable senior women being honored are Avery Pearson, Sierra Parks, Ashley Jones, Louise Lounes, Elliot Pribramsky, Natalie Cook, and Amanda Opp. Senior men include James Overberg, Conner Wingfield, Grady Rauba, Wilson Georges, Lukas Haug, Gustavo Alfonso, Luke Dry, Isaiah Givens, Charles Robertson, Lucas Williams, and Tanner Newkirk.
At their previous outing at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational last weekend, Avery Pearson ran a personal record of 2:03.21 in the 800 meters—moving her to second all-time in program history—while Antonio Votour reached the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.40 seconds. Lucas Williams achieved a weight throw mark that ranks third in school history.
Following Friday’s meet in Boulder, Colorado will travel to Lubbock for the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 27-28.
