The University of Colorado track and field program will begin its 2026 home season with the Potts Invitational on Jan. 16 and 17 at the Ford Practice Facility, according to a Jan. 14 announcement.
The event marks an important opportunity for athletes and fans as it brings together several collegiate teams for competition in Boulder. The meet will feature both men’s and women’s events, with six institutions participating: Air Force, Colorado, Colorado State, CSU Pueblo, MSU Denver, and UCCS. Wyoming’s men’s and women’s teams will also compete, along with Regis University’s women’s team and the Colorado School of Mines men’s squad.
Field events are scheduled to start at noon on Friday with the women’s pole vault and long jump. Saturday’s track events will open with the men’s 60 meter hurdles prelims. The highlight of the weekend is expected to be the mile race, where competitors aim for another sub-four-minute performance after last year’s record-breaking run by CSU Pueblo’s Reece Sharman Newell.
Spectators should note that a clear bag policy is enforced at the Ford Practice Facility. Food and drinks are not allowed inside except for water; attendees must bring their own bottles or cups to use with provided water coolers. Admission is free on Friday but requires tickets on Saturday, which can be purchased online or at the door. Parking is available beneath the Indoor Practice Facility for a fee using kiosks or the ParkMobile app.
In their previous outings this season, Colorado athletes delivered strong performances at meets in Boston and Golden. James Overberg set a new school record in Boston by running 13:31.63 in his event, surpassing Joe Klecker’s previous mark from February 2020. Other notable performances included Dominic Serem’s time of 7:45.61—ranking sixth all-time for Colorado—and Abbey Nechanicky’s personal best of 15:57.80.
Looking ahead, Colorado will continue its homestand by hosting the Colorado Invitational on Jan. 23 and 24.
