Colorado women’s golf team dropped to 10th place after the second round of the NCAA Waco Regional on May 12 at Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas. The Buffaloes are now 23-over-par through two rounds after shooting an 11-over round on Tuesday.

The result matters because only the top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Finals, which are scheduled for May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, California. Colorado, seeded ninth in this event, faces a challenging gap with just one round remaining.

Five teams posted under-par scores during Tuesday’s play. TCU passed Colorado by moving up two spots into eighth after a strong four-under performance. SMU increased its overall lead with an impressive eleven-under day and is now eight strokes ahead of Texas A&M. LSU sits third after going eight-under for the round.

“We’re disappointed with the result today,” Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. “It certainly wasn’t for lack of effort because the team competed hard, but we didn’t quite trust ourselves enough in some key moments. At this stage in the season, when you swing and putt tentatively, it shows up on the scoreboard. We still have another round tomorrow, and our focus is to play freely and finish the week in a way that reflects who we are.”

Junior Carolyn Fuller led Colorado individually with a one-under-par 69 on Tuesday and moved up thirteen spots into a tie for thirty-first overall at four-over-par through two rounds. “That was a really nice round of golf by Carolyn,” Sheils said. “She demonstrated beautiful ball striking, hitting seventeen of eighteen greens (in regulation).” Junior Maya McVey also sits tied for thirty-first after carding a seventy-four.

Freshman Teemapat Pateetin is tied for forty-fifth at eight-over following her seventy-five on Tuesday; freshman Ananthi Vivek had Colorado’s second-best score of seventy-three and stands fifty-third overall; sophomore Ellen O’Shaughnessy is tied for fifty-sixth at fifteen-over following an eighty-one.

The Buffaloes will pair with Prairie View A&M and Northern Arizona during Wednesday’s final round starting from hole ten at 7:50 a.m.
