Colorado women’s golf team finished in fourth place at the 12th Chevron Silverado Showdown, following their best team round of the spring season on April 8. The Buffaloes shot a 4-under-par in the final round, moving up from eighth to fourth and ending the event at 12-over-par.

The result marks Colorado’s best finish at this tournament since 2017. Head coach Madeleine Sheils said, “It’s always really fun to make a move up the leaderboard on a final round. I’m so proud of the fight and composure that our team showed from start to finish this week. Whether we would have finished eighth or fourth, they looked composed and in control the entire time. I’m really proud of their effort; it’s nice to be able to put up a good showing in our home event.”

Junior Carolyn Fuller led Colorado with a standout performance, shooting a bogey-free 6-under-par (66) despite managing a lower leg ailment. “An incredibly impressive round,” Sheils said about Fuller. “It looked perfect on paper, but what was cool was that she was hitting some great shots, but also had to scramble at times… all that while not feeling 100 percent physically. It speaks to her toughness.” Fuller tied for seventh overall and recorded her third top-10 finish of the season.

Fuller reflected on her play by saying, “Honestly, I wish I could have played the par 5s better today… It was a really steady round. I didn’t do anything super special, just tried to stay patient and keep it steady.” She added about her teammates: “I’m really happy for the team’s performance and was really proud of how everyone fought to the end; it’s really positive momentum that we can carry into the postseason.”

Other notable performances included Vanessa Ngo finishing sixth overall after shooting under par each day and achieving Colorado’s lowest three-round score this season (211). Freshman Teemapat Pateetin also rebounded with an under-par final round after struggling earlier in the tournament.

USC won both individual and team titles at Silverado North Course as Jasmine Koo took medalist honors with Bailey Shoemaker and Catherine Park tying for second place individually.

Looking ahead, Colorado will prepare for postseason play with its next appearance scheduled for April 23-25 at the Big 12 Championship held at Dallas Athletic Club.

Sheils concluded: “This (performance) is just what we needed… It’s an awesome way to prepare for the postseason, and I do feel like we gave ourselves some positive momentum heading into the postseason.”
