The Colorado women’s basketball team is set to conclude its regular season with an away game against BYU at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah, on February 28. The matchup, scheduled for 2 p.m. MT, will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be followed via radio on AM 630 KHOW and online platforms.
This game marks the second meeting between Colorado and BYU in two weeks. In their previous encounter on February 14, Colorado secured a decisive 76-46 victory at home, limiting BYU to season lows in scoring during the first quarter, first half, and overall game. With this win, Colorado extended its series lead over BYU to 10-7 and currently holds an eight-game winning streak against the Cougars.
Colorado enters the contest with a record of 20-9 overall and an 11-6 mark in Big 12 conference play. The team is tied for fourth place in the conference standings during its second year back in the Big 12. Under head coach JR Payne—now in her tenth season—the Buffs have achieved a record of 184-125 and made multiple postseason appearances.
Coach Payne commented on her tenure: “Coach Payne has been extended through the 2028 season and has led the Buffs to three NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and one WBIT appearance.”
In their last outing, Colorado lost narrowly to Utah by a score of 67-64 but outperformed Utah in rebounds (36-30), bench points (34-16), steals (9-7), second chance points (10-7), and blocks (3-1). At home this season, Colorado finished with a strong record of 14 wins and three losses.
Several players have stood out statistically this season. Junior guard Desiree Wooten ranks among conference leaders with averages of 12.7 points per game (tied for 18th) and leads Colorado’s recent performance with an 18-point showing against Utah. Junior guard Zyanna Walker is third in steals per game within the conference at 2.3. Senior forward Anaëlle Dutat leads all Big 12 players in offensive rebounds per game (3.9) as well as total offensive rebounds (114); she is also approaching a program milestone for most offensive boards in a single season.
As a team, Colorado ranks second in offensive rebounds per game within the Big 12 at nearly fourteen per contest and maintains strong numbers across several other statistical categories including rebounding margin (+7.4) and steals per game (10.31).
Colorado returns four key players from last year’s roster while welcoming ten newcomers—five transfers from programs such as Kansas State, North Texas, Gonzaga, DePaul, Rhode Island—and five freshmen from both domestic high schools and international programs.
