The Colorado women’s basketball team is set to host No. 20 West Virginia at the CU Events Center in Boulder on February 4 at 7 p.m. MT. This matchup marks only the third meeting between the two programs, with the series currently tied at one win each. The last encounter saw Colorado fall to West Virginia 73-46 in Morgantown during the previous season.
This game serves as Colorado’s annual Play4Kay event, supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and bringing together coaches, players, officials, and fans to raise awareness for cancers affecting women.
Colorado enters the contest with a record of 15-7 overall and 6-4 in Big 12 play, while West Virginia holds an 18-5 overall record and is 8-3 in conference games. The Buffs are looking to extend their current three-game winning streak and take a lead in their all-time series against West Virginia.
Last week, Colorado secured road victories over Kansas State and Kansas. The team won its first overtime game of the season against Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse, with junior guard Zyanna Walker scoring a career-high 24 points and senior forward Jade Masogayo adding 21 points.
Head coach JR Payne leads Colorado in her tenth year with a record of 179-123. She has guided the Buffs to three NCAA tournament appearances and recently received a contract extension through the 2028 season.
The team features several returning players from last year’s roster: senior forward Jade Masogayo, sophomore guard Kennedy Sanders, fifth-year center JoJo Nworie, and sophomore forward Tabitha Betson. For this season, Colorado added ten newcomers—five transfers and five freshmen—including notable additions such as junior guard Zyanna Walker from Kansas State.
Walker is among conference leaders in steals per game (2.3) and was named to the Big 12 Starting Five for her performances last week. Senior forward Anaëlle Dutat ranks second in rebounds per game (8.6) within the conference and leads in offensive rebounding categories.
Other statistical highlights include Masogayo’s ranking for free throw percentage (73.5%) and blocks per game (0.8), freshman Logyn Greer’s contributions on defense with blocks per game (0.8), and junior Desiree Wooten’s average of 12.1 points per game.
As a unit, Colorado ranks fifth in rebounding margin within the Big 12 Conference and is among league leaders for steals per game, offensive rebounds per game, scoring defense, total rebounds per game, and turnover margin.
