The Colorado Buffaloes women’s lacrosse team defeated Stetson 18-3 on Mar. 15, maintaining their perfect home record and extending it to 3-0 this season. The Buffaloes, ranked No. 13, scored ten consecutive goals in the first half and had thirteen different players contribute goals during the game.

The win is significant for Colorado as it demonstrates the team’s depth and ability to execute its game plan after a previous loss at Michigan. Head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said, “For us coming out here, our focus has just been on our standards and being able to execute those consistently. We didn’t do that great at Michigan. I think we played a little individual. We didn’t control the tempo of the game very well. So that was a big focus for us here today. I thought we did a good job of that.”

Colorado led in several statistical categories, including caused turnovers (16-2), ground balls (23-7), draw controls (12-11), and assists (8-2). The Buffaloes held Stetson scoreless through the first quarter and built a ten-goal lead before allowing their opponent’s first goal.

Molly Reed recorded her second career hat trick, while Maddie Shoup, Jaimey Hill, and Rowan Edson each scored twice. Hill also contributed two assists for a team-high four points. Whidden used the opportunity to give playing time to all available players, including all three goalkeepers: “I think this is a group that works so hard. In practice, each of our players has a different role,” Whidden said about player participation. “They worked extremely hard this weekend… I’m really excited to do that today and really excited about how they went out there and executed on all ends.” Reed added, “It’s nice to be back at home and get some confidence under our belts… I think that today just showed what happens when we’re all working together and we can be super successful when we’re all working as a team.”

The Buffaloes will remain at home for their next games, hosting UConn on Mar. 18 before beginning Big 12 play against San Diego State on Mar. 28.
