The University of Colorado Boulder has announced that the men’s basketball game against Portland State, scheduled for Wednesday, December 17 at 7 p.m., will proceed as planned despite a potential power outage. Xcel Energy informed the university of possible Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) that could affect the campus starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
The power shutoff decision comes after the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning for much of the Colorado Front Range, including Boulder. The forecast predicts wind gusts between 60 and 80 miles per hour and sustained winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour by mid-afternoon.
Fans planning to attend the game are advised to exercise caution while traveling and allow extra time due to possible delays caused by weather conditions. According to the university’s statement: “Wednesday’s CU men’s basketball game against Portland State remains scheduled for 7 p.m. but fans are encouraged to take caution when traveling to the game and allow extra time for any potential travel delays. In the event the game cannot be played on Wednesday, it will be rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. If the game is postponed, fans will be notified of the change by 3 p.m. on Wednesday.”
No further updates have been provided regarding changes to other campus activities or events.
