Buffaloes Primetime featured a notable guest on Monday night as Derrick White, former University of Colorado basketball player and current NBA champion, appeared on the weekly coaches radio show. The event took place live at Carelli’s of Boulder.
White, who is currently in Colorado for the NBA All-Star break, visited Boulder to reconnect with his former team. He joined Voice of the Buffaloes Mark Johnson for a segment at the start of the show. Head coach Tad Boyle played a role in bringing White onto the program.
“When coach Boyle tells me to do something, I just do it,” said White during the show. “That’s just how I was coached as a college student and I’m still doing it here today. But it’s always great to be here with you guys.”
Now in his ninth NBA season and fifth year with Boston, White contributed to the Celtics’ 2024 NBA championship win. This season he is averaging 17.2 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He leads Boston in assists and steals (1.2 per game), ranks second in scoring, and fourth in rebounding. The Celtics are leading their division and hold second place overall in the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-19.
“It’s been a fun year,” White said. “I think everyone doubted us going in. So for us to come out there, we’re second in the East right now, it’s been a lot of fun.”
