Authorities in Douglas County have reported an increase in scams involving individuals impersonating members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. According to officials, scammers are contacting residents and falsely claiming to be deputies or sergeants. These callers tell victims they have missed jury duty or have an active warrant, then demand immediate payment.

Another version of the scam targets families of people in custody. The scammers claim they can help post bond and request payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that neither the office nor its Detentions Facility will ever contact individuals by phone to collect payments for these reasons. Residents who receive such calls are advised not to send money and to hang up immediately.

To verify any bond information, community members should call 303-660-7550 or visit https://dcsheriff.net/inmates/inmate-bonding/.

“Please share to help protect others in our community,” the sheriff’s office stated.
