The Colorado Buffaloes were represented by eight current and former athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, according to a Feb. 24 announcement. The group competed across five disciplines and for five different nations, leaving a mark through both their performances and memorable moments.

The participation of these athletes is significant as it highlights the global reach and competitive culture of the Colorado Buffaloes program. Their presence at the Olympics showcased not only athletic achievement but also personal stories of resilience and camaraderie.

Among the notable moments was Hugo Hinckfuss, who drew attention during the Opening Ceremonies by dancing enthusiastically with his Australian teammates, creating one of the most widely shared images of the night. Former athlete Cass Gray also made headlines off the slopes by connecting with members of Canada’s men’s hockey team and sharing her experience on social media.

Joanne Reid’s final Olympic race stood out for its emotional impact. Anchoring the United States in the biathlon relay, she managed to avoid being lapped, allowing her to finish alone in front of a cheering crowd—a fitting end to her comeback that saw her become a three-time Olympian less than a year after returning to competition. Svea Irving demonstrated resilience by returning to attempt her final halfpipe run despite suffering a separated rib earlier in the event.

Other highlights included Alvar Alev and Jakob Moch skiing together during the men’s 50K classic, symbolizing two generations of Buffaloes competing side by side. Ryder Sarchett used Team USA’s social media platform to share his experiences and credited Colorado coaches Ian Lochhead and Chad Wolk for their influence on his development. Stacy Gaskill returned from a serious knee injury to compete in snowboard cross and had an opportunity to meet Snoop Dogg with her US Snowboard teammates.

These stories, along with multiple top-30 finishes, an Olympic finalist appearance, and a top-15 performance, reflected the impact made by Colorado Buffaloes athletes at this year’s Winter Games.
