All Elbert County government offices will open two hours late on Wednesday, Dec. 3, due to an expected severe weather event. The county cited public safety as the main reason for the delayed start.

“With the safety of the traveling public as our top priority, all Elbert County government offices will be on a two-hour delayed schedule Wednesday, Dec. 3. Information on closures or delays for Elbert County Combined Courts can be found here: coloradojudicial.gov,” according to a statement from county officials.

A significant storm is forecasted to move across Colorado Tuesday night. Elbert County road crews will work throughout the storm to clear ice and snow from county roads, with high-traffic routes prioritized for emergency vehicle access. Statewide, Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) teams will also be active during this period.

For details about snow and ice removal responsibilities on state highways in Elbert County, residents are encouraged to visit the Colorado Department of Transportation website.

The county has provided several tips for travelers: check COtrip.org or use the COtrip Planner app before driving; expect slick conditions early Wednesday; reduce speed and increase following distance; never pass snowplows; and watch for possible traction or chain laws and safety closures.
