The University of Colorado track and field program concluded the Potts Invitational on Jan. 17 with several standout performances, including a new facility and Colorado soil record in the men’s invitational mile.
The event was marked by junior Isaiah Givens running a time of 3:57.52 in the men’s invitational mile, breaking both the facility record and the fastest time recorded on Colorado soil. The race also saw strong showings from teammates Kole Mathison (4:00.74), TJ Hansen (4:01.52 in his first collegiate mile), Lukas Haug (personal best 4:02.03), and Grady Rauba (personal best 4:03.14).
Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Sean Carlson continued his effort to break the sub-four-minute barrier for the second consecutive indoor season, following last year’s mark set by CSU Pueblo’s Reece Sharman Newell. Athletic Director Fernando Lovo and Chancellor Dr. Justin Swartz were present to witness the performances.
Other notable results included Jaxson Cook’s 1:17.39 in the men’s 600 meters, Drew Costelow’s 1:18.13, Avery Pearson’s 1:28.79 in the women’s event, and Riley Burkey’s 1:33.77. In hurdles, Antonio Votour improved from an 8.13 prelims time to an 8.09 final, while Teagan Malcom ran times of 8.40 and then 8.37.
Colorado alumni also participated in the meet; former Olympian Valerie Constien ran a women’s invitational mile time of 4:35.03, narrowly missing another facility record, while Abbey Glynn returned to clock a strong performance of 1:28.36 in the women’s 600 meters.
Looking ahead, Colorado will host its second indoor meet of the season with the Colorado Invite scheduled for Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.
