Kole Mathison wins bronze in steeplechase at Big 12 Championships

Colorado track and field athlete Kole Mathison earned a bronze medal in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 16. Mathison finished with a time of 8:38.78 after leading part of the race.

The achievement highlights Colorado’s performance during Friday’s competition, as athletes continue to compete for conference honors. Mathison, a junior, is scheduled to participate in the NCAA West Regional in the coming weeks, where he will aim to qualify for his second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance in the steeplechase.

Avery Pearson also advanced to Saturday’s women’s 800-meter final by placing second in the preliminaries with a time of 2:01.79. Pearson is set to compete for the conference title on Saturday evening.

Competition will continue Saturday, beginning with Lucas Williams participating in men’s discus at 4 p.m., followed by Pearson racing in the women’s 800-meter final at 8:20 p.m.
