The Office of Congresswoman Lauren Boebert announced on Mar. 24 that the application process is now open for students seeking a nomination to a U.S. Service Academy for the Class of 2031.

The announcement matters to high school students in Colorado’s Fourth District who are interested in serving in the military and attending one of the nation’s service academies. These institutions require a congressional nomination as part of their admissions process, making this an important opportunity for aspiring cadets and midshipmen.

“Last year I had the privilege of nominating 38 of the Fourth District’s best and brightest to the U.S. Service Academies,” stated Congresswoman Boebert. “These patriotic young men and women who care deeply about the future of America and public service have committed to serving at least five years in the military following graduation. I look forward to the selection process this year and can’t wait to meet our district’s applicants who are willing to serve our great country!”

According to information from Boebert’s office, applications must be submitted by September 18, 2026, for consideration in Fall 2026 admissions. Students applying for nominations must reside within Colorado’s Fourth District if they wish to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), or U.S. Military Academy (USMA). Applicants from outside this district may apply only for nominations to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA). The fifth academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), does not require a congressional nomination.

Members of Congress are able to nominate candidates each year for appointment at four out of five federal service academies: USMA at West Point, USNA at Annapolis, USAFA at Colorado Springs, and USMMA at Kings Point.

Lauren Boebert is currently serving in Congress representing Colorado’s Third District after replacing Scott Tipton in 2021 according to Wikipedia. She has held her seat since that time according to official records. Born in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1986, Boebert is now age 36 and resides in Silt according to her official biography.

Students interested in applying should review all requirements on the Service Academy Nomination website before submitting their materials.
