Congresswoman Lauren Boebert’s bill, H.R. 131, known as the “Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act,” has passed the United States Senate with unanimous support. The legislation removes interest payments on construction costs for non-federal entities and extends the repayment period to 75 years. This is intended to give local communities more flexibility in completing the Arkansas Valley Conduit project.
The bill was cosponsored by Congressman Jeff Hurd, while Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper led similar efforts in the Senate. The Arkansas Valley Conduit aims to deliver clean water to about 50,000 residents in Southeast Colorado, including those in Bent, Crowley, Prowers, Kiowa, and Baca Counties. The project began in 1962 but has faced multiple delays due to bureaucracy and increased construction and labor costs.
Boebert stated: “I am thrilled the Finish the Arkansas Valley Conduit Act has passed the Senate with unanimous support and is headed to President Trump’s desk to be signed into law. After decades of delays and bureaucracy, this critical project to deliver clean, reliable water to 50,000 hardworking Coloradans will finally be completed. I want to thank the stakeholders for their hard work to get this bill across the finish line, this is a huge win for Southeast Colorado.”
Lauren Boebert has represented Colorado’s 3rd District in Congress since 2021 after replacing Scott Tipton. She was born in Altamonte Springs, Florida in 1986 and currently lives in Silt.
