ELBERT COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT: Virtual Learning - K -12 Update

Education

Elbert County School District recently issued the following announcement.

School Closure Starts Nov. 9, 2020.

Virtual learning Starts Nov. 12, 2020.

Dear Staff, Parents, Guardians, and Community,

This message concerns in-person learning in Kiowa Schools.  Many of our staff and students are presently under COVID-19 quarantine because of positive tests.  In fact, the number of staff and students combined that are quarantined or in isolation is presently over 65.

Because of this widespread COVID-19 issue, including a closure recommendation from Elbert County Health officials, we will be transitioning to virtual learning this week.  Starting, Monday, November 9th, there will not be in-person learning in any of our  Schools and we will start distance learning on Thursday, November 12th.  This method of instruction will be implemented through Thursday, November 19th when the school district goes on Thanksgiving break.

Because of the importance of virtual learning, I want our teachers to be well prepared just in case this method of education is long-lasting.  Staff who are not quarantined or isolated will report to work on Monday, November 9th.  On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week our teachers and staff will organize to send computers and educational materials home.  Parents will be given instructions on when and where to pick up student computers and materials that will be available to retrieve on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Again staff will prepare for distance learning this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  We will be starting distance learning with students this Thursday and continue into next week.  At the end of Thanksgiving break, a decision will be made to continue distance learning or again go to in-person learning.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these most difficult times.
