Meet Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly on March 29

During his career Sheriff Weekly has Served in several divisions in management positions as a corporal, sergeant, and lieutenant.  In 2010 he was promoted to the rank of captain by Sheriff Weaver and assigned to the Professional Standards Division which encompasses Internal Affairs, Hiring, Training, and Accreditation to include: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (C.A.L.E.A.), American Correctional Association (A.C.A.), National Commission on Correctional Health Care (N.C.C.H.C.). He was instrumental in D.C.S.O. receiving the coveted “Triple Crown Award” through the National Sheriffs’ Association. Fewer than 100 sheriff’s offices out of more than 3000 in the nation have achieved and maintained “Triple Crown” accreditation status.

In 2012 he graduated from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

In 2013 he was designated by the Douglas County Office of Emergency Management as an Incident Commander for the Incident Management Team. He also graduated from the F.E.M.A. All-Hazards Type 3 Incident Command School.

In 2013 he was assigned to lead the Patrol Division. He also served as the commander for the majority of special teams including the Douglas County Regional S.W.A.T. Team. He has attended various S.W.A.T. tactical and leadership courses including the National Tactical Officers Association Command and Leadership course.  In 2014 he completed the Fulcrum Concepts Tactical Commanders course taught by Lieutenant Colonel (R) Tom Di Tomasso (“Black Hawk Down”). He has also served as a coordinator for the 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (C.I.R.T.) which is a multi-agency team formed to independently investigate officer involved fatal or near fatal incidents.

In 2018 he was assigned as the Detentions Division Commander and was responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of pre-trial detainees as well as sentenced inmates.  He oversaw the reintegration programs, as well as initiated the process for the Douglas County Jail to be a Medication-Assisted Treatment (J.M.A.T.) Detention facility to help treat inmates with opioid addiction.

In 2020 he was assigned as the Investigations Division-Major Crimes Commander which includes Crimes Against Persons (homicide, felony assault, adult sexual assault, missing persons), Special Victims (sexual assaults on children, child abuse, elder abuse), Financial Crimes, the Unified Metropolitan Forensic Crime Lab, and Victims Assistance.

On November 8th, 2022 he was elected by the citizens to serve as the 34th Sheriff of Douglas County.

Sheriff Weekly also serves on the Board of Directors for the Crisis Center, as well as the Douglas County Community Foundation.

Our member luncheons offer great networking, an opportunity to make with new business connections and catch up with other. Each luncheon has a different guest speaker to help keep our members up-to-date on the local community, business hot topics, statewide information and much more.

Pre-Registration is required, as we have to get numbers to the caterer in advance.  The deadline to register is 9:00 am on the Friday prior to lunch.
