Boulder County, Colo. - Boulder County’s Public Works Department has begun phase 2 of the N. 71st Street Reconstruction Project. Work is taking place between Winchester Circle/Gunbarrel Tech Center and CO Highway 52/Mineral Road (see map). In order to safely install a new concrete culvert, N. 71st Street will be CLOSED to all travelers between Winchester and CO 52 from 7 a.m. on Monday, March 20 through June. Detours to N. 71st Street will be established. People seeking to access the Gunbarrel Tech Center will need to use 71St street from the south off of Lookout Road.

After the full closure has ended, travelers can expect to see daytime, weekday single-lane closures. Cyclists are being asked to avoid the area by using the nearby LoBo Trail. The contractor anticipates completing the project by the end of July.

In addition to drainage structure improvements, the project will include widening N. 71st Street to increase the shoulder width and creating a new intersection alignment at CO Highway 52 that will improve line of sight and add turning lanes. CO Highway 52 will remain open at all times during this project. The roadway will be completely repaved and restriped at the end of the project. Questions and comments about the project can be directed to Andrew Barth, Public Works Communications, at abarth@bouldercounty.org or call 303-441-1032.
