Lafayette, CO — On June 22, Congressman Joe Neguse announced the City of Fort Collins is the recipient of a monumental $10,713,570 grant from the Department of Transportation (DOT). The funding is made possible through the DOT’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Discretionary Grant program, which invests in road, rail, transit and port projects across the country. In February of this year, Rep. Neguse wrote to the Office of the Secretary of Transportation expressing his support for the selected project titled the Foothills Transit Station and Roundabout—read his letter of support HERE.
“I am excited to announce this tremendous investment in Colorado’s transportation infrastructure. This grant will help to connect students, families, and workers across Fort Collins, improving access to public transportation and easing the flow of traffic,” said Congressman Neguse.
“Fort Collins is very appreciative of the Raise Grant Award from the US Department of Transportation. Building out our transit infrastructure reduces greenhouse gas emissions, increases mobility and serves our residents,” said Jeni Arndt, Mayor of Fort Collins.
The Foothills Transit Station and Roundabout project funds the construction of the new Foothills Transit Station in the West Elizabeth transit corridor and a roundabout at the intersection of Overland Trail and West Elizabeth.
Additionally, the Foothills Transit Station and Roundabout project will:
- Assist in easing the flow of traffic;
- Improve accessibility for transit buses moving to and through the transit center;
- And connect West Fort Collins with Downtown along with other important regional destinations like Colorado State University’s main campus.
