The Colorado Buffaloes men’s track and field team sent three athletes to the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 13, where they competed in hurdles, weight throw, and distance running events.
The event provided an opportunity for the athletes to test their skills against strong competition and measure their progress during the indoor season.
Antonio Votour participated in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing as the top college athlete in his heat with a time of 8.35 seconds and advancing to the final, where he ran 8.40 seconds. Lucas Williams competed in the weight throw, achieving a mark of 19.38 meters (63 feet-7 inches), which was just under three inches from his personal record that ranks third all-time at Colorado. Williams’ performance was also the second best at the meet. Jake Liebert ran in the 5000 meters, finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 13:34.18—just over one second off his own personal record that is second-best in school history.
Head coach Sean Carlson said, “Lucas in the throws had a great and consistent series and is leaving up.” Carlson also commented on Liebert’s performance: “Jake is very fit and learning the tactics of racing. We’re in a good spot when he’s disappointed running a 13:34 as a redshirt freshman.”
Looking ahead, Amanda Opp will represent Colorado in the women’s weight throw while Avery Pearson will compete in the women’s 800 meters at upcoming events.
