The University of Colorado Boulder reported on Feb. 6 that three Buffaloes competed in throwing events and a graduate student set a facility record in the high jump during the opening day of the Colorado Classic at the Ford Practice Facility. The meet marks the third home indoor track event of the season for CU.
The competition saw senior Amanda Opp place fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 17.21 meters, while junior Alaina Fantaski achieved a personal best of 8.29 meters in the shot put. Senior Lucas Williams participated in the weight throw as well, finishing sixth with a mark of 18.98 meters.
Marguerite Lorenzo, competing unattached and currently a graduate student in Civil Engineering at CU Boulder, cleared 1.82 meters to set a new Ford Practice Facility record in the women’s high jump.
The Colorado Classic is scheduled to conclude Saturday with running events beginning at 11 a.m. Mountain Time at the Ford Practice Facility. Several Buffaloes are expected to participate across multiple races, including sprints, middle-distance, and relay events.
Recent NCAA Division I rankings highlight Isaiah Givens holding the top spot nationally in the men’s mile with a time of 3:51.73, Dominic Serem ranked thirteenth in the men’s 3,000 meters at 7:45.61, and Kole Mathison ranked sixteenth in the men’s mile with a time of 3:54.87.
